I must admit that Shelley Winters was never a favorite mine and precisely because of that, I was to glad to read this post. I must watch more of her performances and embrace her more sordid and uncomfortable parts that are also part of her legacy. Growing up, I remember her the most in Disney’s Pete’s Dragon. Great post.

There's so much to explore with her...including her memoirs, her talk show appearances...and she's good value in even her Universal programmers and some of the more questionable choices of the 1970s and '80s.

Great post. You know how I love Shelley, such a fearless actress. I had never even heard of A Death of Innocence so I thought I'd look at a few minutes; now here I am, just watched it all. She's astounding in it, you're right. Plus all the 1970s location work and Ann Sothern and daughter Tisha!

It's so interesting to see Winters playing such a repressed, controlled character in "A Death of Innocence," and she does it so well, with such skill....this is a perfect example of how effective casting against type can be.
